My first memories of my childhood are of the days before I attended school, I remember my brothers and sisters leaving the house to
go and I remember I couldn’t wait to start and when the big day came my sister Jacqueline took me to Greetby Hill Primary. I was then
5 ½ years old.
Two years later I went to the Junior school, I was there for 4 years. My first impression of the school was the size of it and the
long tables in the dining room.

Dorothy's Profile.
I was born on 1st. March 1951 at 41, Whittle Drive, Ormskirk three weeks after the family moved in. I was Christened
Dorothy Ann after my grandmother on Dads side.
The house was a council house on Scott Estate in a row of four. Mr. and Mrs. Singleton
lived on the end at number 43; on the other side was Mr. And Mrs. Berry at No. 39 with a passage way between. Mr. and Mrs. Tabarn
lived at No. 37.
Our house had 3 bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. Downstairs there was a lounge, a dinning room and a kitchen with
pantry.
Outside buildings housed a WC, Coal store and a Washhouse.
The ground floor was later modernised with the lounge dining room
being knocked into one, the outhouses being the base for a large kitchen and dining room.
We had a garden to the front and a larger
garden at the rear this was for vegetables, and a shed for chickens, which also housed turkey’s ducks and geese at different times.
Beyond the garden was a large playing field followed by farmer George Gittin’s fields.

I stood next to her in the
assembly hall and after assembly she left me there with a lot of other children, none of which I knew.
Eventually we were shown our
classroom and our first teacher, Miss Woofenden.
